Recc. for Lake Tahoe?

We are planning on taking our 31ft motorhome to Lake Tahoe next week, staying through Labor Day. I know it's not likely that we can get reservations, so my question is - what state or natl. forest campgrounds can handle this size unit and have some spots that don't require reservations? Any recommendations?

RE: Size Debate for new rv owner

Have a 31' Seabreeze, and it will fit in most parks. A 29 ft. would be easier. Even with a 31', fitting into gas stations can be a problem, and we've side swiped things. Also, being 12' high doesnt help when squeezing under trees. Finally, pay attention the turning radius of the vehicle. Our Workhorse chassis has a very good one, which helps get us out of trouble at times.

RE: Voip with Motosat?

Thanks for the tip on Ambervoip. It appears that they have monthly rates. I was looking for buying blocks of minutes, as I use the Voip very intermittently. One person who uses Skype with Motosat suggested that multiple calls have to be made until a good contact is made with the recipient of the call. The problem seems to be the quality of the connection by Motosat, rather than the Skype software.

Voip with Motosat?

I've had the Motosat internet system for several years, and have had pretty good luck using the NetZerovoice software Voip system. Unfortunately, they stopped service a while ago. I have tried Skype, with very poor results. Was wondering if there were any other software systems out there which may work. Net2phone and Yahoo Voice come to mind. Had any experience with these? Or others?

SiteMeter may cause Explorer crashes

I have noticed several internet sites causing my Explorer browser to crash today. Tioga George has traced the possible source to SiteMeter, a little program that internet sites and bloggers use to keep track of contacts. If you use SiteMeter, check to be sure folks can still use your site.

RE: 2003 w22 dash cluster

Workhorse must have spent a fortune on replacing/repairing Activa displays over the years. Sounds like they have "had it" in dealing with the problem. Unfortunately, some customers will suffer. My unit was in the shop for a month in order to get the display replaced. When it works, the display is great. But when it doesn't, it's a danger because important info like oil pressure and road speed aren't available. I think they are going to lose some customers over this.

RE: Cracks In Fiberglass Roof

Just a thought... What if you used a tiny drill to "terminate" the end of the cracks, then used Eternabond over the cracks?

RE: Sad thing on I 40

Whew! That video was really scary. I just finished installing a fire supression system for the engine and genny (http://www.firefight1.com/). Cost about $350, and I hope I never have to use it.

RE: Question for those who removed carpet

Several years ago we put down vinyl squares that look like parquet flooring. Left the rug under the front seats and doghouse for insulation. Best thing we ever did with the motorhome !

RE: CB antenna Side Mount, Do you have one on your rig ?

I have a Firestick side mounted above the drivers window. It's anchored into the metal frame, creating a great ground plane. It sticks up about a foot above the roof. The CB pros recommended this configuration, and it works well. Just be sure to seal the opening with lap calk well.

RE: Recommendations for an inexpensive GPS unit

Just got a Garmin 350 for $199. Was about $600 several years ago when it just came out. Works great. Has a built-in mp3 player, U.S. map with free '09 update, and an SD slot for added memory. Also voice directed turns. Garmin is the leader in GPS technology. I had one when flying an airplane years ago, and got completely addicted to it. Think I got my 350 at www.buydig.com. The coolest thing is to mount it from the drivers side window at eye height. It's like a heads-up display when you drive. Really saves the stress of navigation and getting lost in a big rig. Right now I'm programming the SD card for music, rest areas, and dump site databases.

RE: Satellite Internet - Are there downsides to a dish on the RV

I started-out with the tripod system, and after using it for a year, switched to the roof mount. This was an excellent decision. The tripod was a real pain to deal with, and my blood pressure was suffering. There is no real support with a tripod, as you are considered a "renegade" by Hughes. I have had my share of difficulties with the roof mount, though. Different components have failed. But Motosat is pretty good with their support. The tripod dish is now a permenant fixture when we are home. Just move the modem from the motorhome and reattach to the dish when home. That allows me to cover the motorhome between trips, yet maintain a satellite internet connection. A good digital cell connection will always be faster than a satellite one. If it weren't for the fact that we like to travel to Mexico, I would probably have an air card in my laptop instead.

RE: Yet another 1 up in flames.

Just finished installing a fire supression system in the engine compartment and generator - for about $350. Not bad price. Got the equipment at www.firefight1.com I've read enough stories like this and seen too many burned spots on the road.

RE: Save fuel - take the train

I like the idea! Given what people have said so far, it would have to be a company that has a few flat cars. Coming from San Diego, the M.H. would load here and be dropped-off, say in Vermont. The M.H. passengers would fly across country and meet it when it arrived, then drive leisurely home. It would save a ton of gas and wear & tear on the M.H.

RE: S.O.S. update...my bad...(blush, blush #$@%&*)

A valuable lesson learned. Lots of electrical devices on RV's malfunction because of poor contacts. Before jumping to conclusions, always check contacts for a solid connection.

RE: Pressure Pro - UPDATE

Low battery in the sensor, or blocked sensor air passage? Try another sensor on that tire. If it is a sensor problem, you may have to have it serviced or replaced. If the other sensor also reads low, it may be an incomplete connection with the tire valve - it's not being depressed far enough in by the sensor when screwed in.

RE: Where can we go?

Many Garmins have POI functions. You can download a file from www.discoveryowners.com to make a POI file on tunnel heights. It will alert you when you approach one. Use the Text File type of database and follow the POI directions in the manual.

RE: Thoughts about inexpensive fire suppression system?

Thanks for all of the ideas and feedback. Here's my resolution: I ordered two fire supression units from www.firefight1.com. The first is a three pound Halon, auto unit for under the doghouse. ($225) The second is a slick little .88 lb Halon auto unit that fits in my Onan generator box. ($95) Ralph is the owner of the business, and loves to talk and give advice. Have been seeing too many black areas on the road from vehicle fires.

RE: Generator runs only while holding start???????

Check to be sure that all electrical connections are tight. They tend to loosen or break over time because of the vibration of the motor. Happened to mine. Motor would start, then stop quickly because of a broken wire that lost connection when the motor was going.
